I really liked how this turned out. I'm only wondering if I should add anything to the white background. Usually the portrait backgrounds are white, and I like that effect. People have sometimes commented that they look unfinished that way.

Custer Street fair

This past weekend I participated with an annual event in our neighborhood: the Custer Street Fair. I was a part of a group that displayed our artwork.
Traffic was slow at our booth, so I decided to paint in the street.
Here's my portrait of Karima in the works...

I'm happy with this start, especially since I don't often paint with the paper upright. I'll post it when I'm done.

Way back in high school

I used to paint all kinds of pictures from magazines. Working in watercolor didn't allow for a lot of working from life - not for the subjects that interested me. So I used magazine photos.

One of the last things I did in high school was a painting where I slapped one image in monochrome right over the top of another painting on the same paper. Then I added another painting right on top of that one. I rubbed a little paint out of one image to make another a little more readable. I really liked the look, and started to do this sort of image as I went for more conceptual work.

This painting was done in college - toward the end of my undergrad work. Images combined in a collage-like way to evoke some thoughts and associations...

Number one

As I begin, a note:

This is a page where I will try to refrain from journaling about my latest ideas. I'm going to try and post paintings, drawings, and whatever artwork I am working on. This is (hopefully) going to keep me working and keep you current on what things I'm making - and perhaps I'll include why.

I'd like your feedback.
