Statement

The artists I like don’t have artists statements. Nevertheless, here is my ode to watercolor: I think, I plan, I draw, I mask, I paint in careful washes - and she does whatever she wants. Such is the work of a watercolorist.
With my portraits, I want to advocate for the poor, and to bring out the dignity in a person. I’m aiming for accuracy, vibrancy and color.
With the collage paintings, I want to use layers as an allegory for thought, and symbols for association that might reach beyond cultures. The paintings explore ethics, anthropology, faith and spirituality.
I’m a big believer in art that has craft AND content.
